Oscar de la Renta chose not to show at New York Fashion Week and instead streamed on Amazon. Is Amazon a suitable forum for a luxury brand? CEO Alex Bolen said, "I'm not sure. But we have to experiment with new ways to get our story out." https://lnkd.in/g4rZMxyb We launched our funds when Covid started and with the halt in travel and tough fund raising environment for emerging managers, we focused on performance and experimented with new ways to reach out to allocators, namely Linkedin posts and YouTube videos which can now be binge-watched on www.quantflix.com . True, some people say that with the positive fund returns last year for both our long-only equity and multi-strategy funds, and the China fund outperforming its benchmark by its annualized double-digit aim, it was expected that we would pass the $100m mark. The path to this revelation started when my friend Rebekah Pang agreed (after some wine, maybe a little more on the more side) to us doing a new QuantflixTV series with portfolio managers in the style of Carpool Karaoke. Well of course I know that I'm no Peter Muller - I got his CD from his family office so I can actually make this objective assessment - but no one I spoke to wanted to be heard singing on air, even with a mask on. Because yes of course every allocator recognizes a fund manager by his or her voice. Then again I'm not someone who gives up on an idea easily. Tenacious is my Tool.
So I searched for car-related talk shows and found Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Rebekah can handle the fancy cars bit, and I can probably talk about nothing/anything. In the first episode with Jim Carrey as a guest, they talked about absolute vs relative in the context of orange juice, and how there are different levels of (advertised) pulp like regular pulp, less pulp, extra pulp but in the end it's all an illusion. There is no pulp. Replace "pulp" with "hedging" and it made perfect sense for 2022.Please suggest songs we can play in the show because I don't want to have this on loop:
"I wanna be a billionaire so freakin' bad..."
Check out the New & Improved quantflix.com! Although I admit to being freaked out at seeing myself (frozen with the worst possible expressions) in the thumbnail pictures. For those who want to sleep soundly at night, we are launching a blog site with a collection of just my writing.
