Chinese New Year Spring Cleaning

Chinese New Year spring-cleaning is about tossing out old stuff so you can bring in new things.

So I got a new faucet sponge which would solve my daily problem of the sponge holder falling off every time I take out the sponge. But I repurposed the mini suction to be a dishcloth holder on the backsplash wall.

We put up CNY office decorations. Instead of buying pre-made ones, we up-cycled red packets from last year, using the side that does not not show Tiger motifs (which would scare off the bunnies in the Year of the Rabbit). Save money and save trees.

One of our institutional clients asked us how our fund expense ratio can be so low especially for a young fund just at 100m. We are personally invested in the funds and do not want to incur unnecessary expenses which subtract from net returns. Today we added some lines of code to run NLP sentiment analysis on our positions with variable time periods, rather than buy something new off-the-shelf. But to effectively handle the growing AUM, we continuously evaluate our portfolio and trading management systems. We fix when we can and buy if need be.

In the spirit of being ESG this year of inflation (and possibly recession), Enhance not Exceed.

The First Edition of Friday Only Club!

  I got a latte art portrait of me today. It's not a "big deal" but shows the barista cares (at 9am in the morning). (No comments on how I look, especially my Bombastic Hair*, unless you look better with no Photoshop in your mid-40s with no makeup). Maybe some would say this is just business, the cafe is trying to get you to buy more coffee. But this is what differentiates a human barista from the Nespresso machine. Recently with year-end celebrations, New Year and Chinese New Year parties, I have been going to fancy wine dinners. I do appreciate the effort, and savings, but after talking to fellow investor friends I realized that sometimes we just need a cool place to chillax and share ideas (aka complain about investments that didn't work out).
