Oscar de la Renta chose not to show at New York Fashion Week and instead streamed on Amazon. Is Amazon a suitable forum for a luxury brand? CEO Alex Bolen said, "I'm not sure. But we have to experiment with new ways to get our story out." https://lnkd.in/g4rZMxyb We launched our funds when Covid started and with the halt in travel and tough fund raising environment for emerging managers, we focused on performance and experimented with new ways to reach out to allocators, namely Linkedin posts and YouTube videos which can now be binge-watched on www.quantflix.com . True, some people say that with the positive fund returns last year for both our long-only equity and multi-strategy funds, and the China fund outperforming its benchmark by its annualized double-digit aim, it was expected that we would pass the $100m mark. But when times are bad, most new investment monies went to well-known funds that are much bigger with a marketing budget that we cannot afford. So every lit
I'm late to congratulate our GAO ASV Fund for winning the Best Asian ex-Japan Fund but I did celebrate that very same evening with beer on the porch 95 miles north of the Arctic Circle while watching the northern lights.
How can anyone have beer at the same latitude as Alaska outdoors in a year the UK is at minus 15 degrees Celsius? Shouldn't beer only be enjoyed in the hot summer? Indeed, it's easy to enjoy ice-cold beer when it's sweltering hot everywhere. But in order to enjoy my favorite beverage up north in the winter, I traveled to the Lofoten Islands which enjoy relatively mild temperatures of around 0 degree Celsius even in December due to moderation from the gulf stream and it was actually a few degrees positive that evening which made drinking beer in my slippers possible.Wouldn't it be easier to drink hot mulled wine that would also add some festive cheer? Just like having shorts instead of being long-only which is what ASV does? I've drank these seasonal hot drinks. People make it once a year and it sounds like a good idea but because of lack of constant practice, it usually doesn't taste very good. Many long-short managers have been very net long during the bull market and have not been shorting much, sometimes just with index or basket hedges. It becomes a recipe for disaster when your longs don't work and the shorts which are supposed to save the longs fall even more in price - the hot mulled wine that tastes bad even on a cold winter's night.
Happy Holidays everyone. And still open to beer endorsements. Here's my ad pitch: Consistently Good in All Weather.
Not just Good, GAO Good. (do I switch to selling T-shirts?)
