What's wrong with reading Harry Potter? People don't write about CEOs reading WSJ or driving a car or drinking coffee. So is reading Harry Potter such an unusual activity or is that somehow a red flag for poor governance? Or are readers deemed to be childish and immature? I can imagine VCs in the future including "Do board members read Harry Potter?" in their extensive due diligence.I started reading Harry Potter when I was in college, which was when the series first came out. I remembered reading the first book in one go - including bringing the paperback to the bathroom - because the story was really good. I enjoyed the subsequent books so much that I bought a volume in German to improve my proficiency in that language (see pic). Unfortunately that was as successful as my attempt to become fitter by buying an Equinox membership.
When I ask intern candidates what books they read, many of them say the only books they read are their textbooks. This is not all that surprising given that this generation consumes information through the internet and social media. But I think it would be good to read more, even Harry Potter.
