Oscar de la Renta chose not to show at New York Fashion Week and instead streamed on Amazon. Is Amazon a suitable forum for a luxury brand? CEO Alex Bolen said, "I'm not sure. But we have to experiment with new ways to get our story out." https://lnkd.in/g4rZMxyb We launched our funds when Covid started and with the halt in travel and tough fund raising environment for emerging managers, we focused on performance and experimented with new ways to reach out to allocators, namely Linkedin posts and YouTube videos which can now be binge-watched on www.quantflix.com . True, some people say that with the positive fund returns last year for both our long-only equity and multi-strategy funds, and the China fund outperforming its benchmark by its annualized double-digit aim, it was expected that we would pass the $100m mark. But when times are bad, most new investment monies went to well-known funds that are much bigger with a marketing budget that we cannot afford. So every lit...
No one wanted to watch the previous F1 race in Singapore, and that was just a few years ago in 2019.
OK some people were already fans before the Netflix series but as you can see from my pic there were many empty seats at the grandstand even on finals night back then. In fact, to get my sister to go watch the event with me the conversation went:Me: Hey you want to go watch F1 for free?
Sis: No. What's so fun about seeing cars zoom past for a split second?
Me: There's free sit-down 4-course dinner and unlimited booze. And there's an indoor area with aircon.
Sis: OK. Since I have nothing else on.
This time round tickets sold out like toilet paper when covid started, hotel room rates around the F1 track hit $3,000 per night which ain't too bad considering tickets are going for 1k per person (and you have to wait a long time when you need to use the toilet).
Clearly circumstances have changed - demand increased exponentially while supply has stayed the same (there are only so many, or few, seats and just the same hotels with a view of the race track). I hear people say oh the tickets are too expensive, I will just wait for the banks and law firms to give free tickets again.
As my mom would say, "Last time mata 穿短裤", which translates to the policemen used to wear shorts, meaning just because something used to happen doesn't mean it will come back.
This is a useful phrase when you get peddled private tech companies whose valuations have fallen by half. And even public firms whose share prices went down even more.
I'm pretty sure I'll be watching the SG F1 on TV in my apartment, even next year, with beer I have to buy myself from 7-11.
