Oscar de la Renta chose not to show at New York Fashion Week and instead streamed on Amazon. Is Amazon a suitable forum for a luxury brand? CEO Alex Bolen said, "I'm not sure. But we have to experiment with new ways to get our story out." https://lnkd.in/g4rZMxyb We launched our funds when Covid started and with the halt in travel and tough fund raising environment for emerging managers, we focused on performance and experimented with new ways to reach out to allocators, namely Linkedin posts and YouTube videos which can now be binge-watched on www.quantflix.com . True, some people say that with the positive fund returns last year for both our long-only equity and multi-strategy funds, and the China fund outperforming its benchmark by its annualized double-digit aim, it was expected that we would pass the $100m mark. But when times are bad, most new investment monies went to well-known funds that are much bigger with a marketing budget that we cannot afford. So every lit...
Met up with my ex-intern M who's back from London for a short while. M suggested I write a book about myself, and I'm like "who would be interested in me besides myself, my mom and maybe my friends?!" I would sell 20 copies which would hardly be enough to propel me to a Bestsellers list, even in the niche category of Debut Non-fiction by Asian Female. Unless I promote this as essential reading for diversity compliance.
M, a math major, analyzed why Being Chauwei (reference to John Malkovich for the younger ones) could be a bigger hit than I expected. Relative to 20 copies anyway.
1. The GAO alumni would buy. All of the GAOs (pronounced like Tokyo Ghouls) have become successful so buying a dozen copies each would not be a problem. Plus these will be signed limited edition copies - limited because there won't be a second print.
2. Not everyone can become Steve Jobs. Maybe becoming Chauwei is not too bad. In the same way not everyone can afford Hermes - Coach is aspirational. In fact, it is inspirational to know that after going through investment banking I can remain annoyingly positive while STILL in finance. Maybe I'm just mad(hatter).
They say the type of art you collect reflects your personality. I'm not sure what to decipher from these clearly-not-from-this-world energetic whimsical works that I'm drawn to.
But I digress. Getting back to my book. Please let me know if you want to place a pre-order. I'll add you to the Special Thanks To section. I might even throw in a free T-shirt printed with 'The Chau Way - the curly path'.
